Tale of Tales
Storyteller Mariella Bertelli joins Vesuvius Ensemble in a special program that combines both traditional and original music with fairy tales from the collection known as the Pentamerone or The Tale of Tales. Composed in Neapolitan dialect in 1634 by Giambattista Basile, this work contains early versions of such tales as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty before they were adapted by the Brothers Grimm and others. Though the original title page called the tales “Entertainment for Little Ones,” these raw and earthy stories are best experienced among grownups!
