Event Details

On Friday October 25 join us for POP-UP POT-POURRI, an evening of performance and artist-audience conversation featuring recorder quartets by Canadian composers Jean Papineau-Couture and George Fiala, keyboard solos by William Byrd from the late 16th-century Lady Nevell’s Book, Baroque flute and hurdy gurdy improvisations to haiku, solos by Ben Grossman, and more! We’ll play the music, and between pieces take time for some easygoing discussion of what it’s like to explore, rehearse and perform it, and how it’s experienced by listeners.

The musicians are Ben Grossman, vielle à roue (hurdy gurdy); Alison Melville, Baroque flute & recorder; recorder players Colin Savage, Romina Abadi, and Yasuchika Suzuki; and Louise Hung, virginal. An unusual instrumental gathering, a unique collection of music – something out of the ordinary, and bound to be entertaining!

Ben Grossman will also be presenting a workshop for classical musicians new to free improvisation on the afternoon of Saturday October 26. If you’re interested in participating or auditing, check out the BeMused event on this site. If you have other questions please contact us at northwindconcerts@gmail.com.
