The three finalists in the Career Development Award competition have been announced. Pianist Pierre-André Doucet, pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin, and cellist Stéphane Tétreault will compete in Walter Hall on April 26 for prizes of $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000 – among the highest awards for classical music in Canada.
The first place winner also performs in the 2016-17 Music in the Afternoon concert series. The three were chosen from 10 competitors across Canada. The CBC will record the competition for future broadcast.
Julie Nesrallah of CBC Radio 2 hosts the competition in Walter Hall, at the Faculty of Music, U of T, on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 1:30 pm. Tickets are $25 each or five for $100.

The Career Development Award, presented every three years, assists exceptional young Canadian musicians already engaged in a professional performing career. It is a project of the WMCT in partnership with CBC Radio Music and Espace Musique de Radio-Canada, and is funded by the WMCT Foundation. To celebrate the tenth presentation the prize money has been increased and a live competition added.
