This guided tour will be in French but is suitable for persons with an intermediate level in French. The speaker will translate when necessary to allow a complete understanding of this talk. This is a perfect way to practice your understanding skills in French.

La Tour Eiffel : Une dame de fer – NIVEAU DE FRANÇAIS INTERMÉDIAIRE (A2/B1)

Construite pour l’Exposition universelle de 1889, l’un des plus grands événements de la fin du 19e siècle, la Tour Eiffel est une merveille d'ingénierie. Dominant Paris de sa silhouette élancée, elle est progressivement devenue le symbole de la capitale française et de la France en général. C’est aujourd’hui un incontournable monument pour quiconque vient à Paris, et de loin le monument le plus visité de la capitale. Et pourtant, à l’origine, elle devait être détruite peu après la fin de l'Exposition universelle…! Comment et pourquoi est-elle demeurée dans le paysage parisien ? En compagnie d’Ophélie Delacour, visitez la Tour Eiffel depuis Toronto. Découvrez toutes les anecdotes qui l’entourent : comment elle a été vendue par un escroc, pourquoi Hitler a failli la faire exploser, mais également comment les peintres avant-gardistes se sont emparés de ce nouveau symbole moderne, détesté par le public plus conservateur…

The Eiffel Tower: An Iron Lady - INTERMEDIATE LEVEL (B2/C1)

Built for the 1889 World Exhibition, one of the most important events of the end of the 19th century, the Eiffel tower is an engineering wonder. She looks over Paris with its slim structure. Over the years it has become the symbol of the French capital and even France itself.  Today it is one of the must-see for any tourist and by far the most visited building of the city. However, it was originally meant to be destroyed at the end of the World exhibition…! How and why did it stay in Paris? Follow Ophélie on a tour in the Eiffel Tower. Discover its history and fun facts: how it was almost sold by a scam, why Hitler tried to blow it up and how it was saved, what impact it had on avant-garde artists and how the most conservative 19th-century public hated this modern symbol…

Who is your guide?

Passionate by art and culture, Ophélie Delacour graduated in cultural mediation from Ecole du Louvre, in Paris. Since a couple of years, she works as a tour guide and organises tours in different Parisian districts and masterpieces (Eiffel Tour, Latin District, Montmartre). In 2019, she comes to Toronto to work for one year at Alliance Française Toronto and offers the first online guided tours during Covid-19. She is now back in France, where she lives and from where she keeps on giving online tours in Toronto.

Register here and you will recieve a Zoom link the night before the vent. The tour is 1h and consists of the discovery of the Eiffel Tower. All of your questions are certainly welcome and the tour will be interactive.
