Event Details

Bringing together two of Toronto’s most powerful musical forces, the Big Band Gospel Project is a collaboration between the 18-piece Toronto Jazz Orchestra and the 35-voice Toronto Mass Choir. The Big Band Gospel Project features performances by each ensemble alone, and at least six arrangements for the combined ensembles, created specifically for the Project by acclaimed composer/producer Shelly Berger. Repertoire includes traditional tunes and original compositions, reflecting the strong history and continuing vitality of both jazz and gospel music.

The Big Band Gospel Project was conceived as an opportunity for two ensembles to celebrate, with each other and the audience, a passion for performance; to explore each ensemble’s musical traditions; and to find the common ground within those musical traditions. We want to create greater awareness of both gospel and jazz in Toronto, and strengthen and celebrate the musical and cultural diversity of Toronto. But most of all, we want to share our passion and excitement with you.
